About Garth

Garth BorthistleGarth brings a variety of ministry and executive experience into the role. Before sensing a calling into Pastoral ministry, Garth spent 20 years in various business executive leadership roles at home in Canada, plus in the USA, Europe, and Asia. He also spent 12 years as an entrepreneur which included owning a coffee shop in Cloverdale, BC plus a distribution operation business.
During this time, he started serving in formal ministry roles, first as an Associate Pastor before becoming a trained Transitional Pastor/Leader. He is an active team member of the Transitional Leadership Network, an organization dedicated to building a training community for Transitional Leaders & Pastors.

Garth grew up in a Christian home in White Rock, BC. He has served in many capacities in churches as a ministry leader, teacher, and various board/elder roles. What draws him to ministry is the need to express his core competencies in coaching and belief in service-based leadership, as Jesus modeled for his disciples. Transitional work is also about healing and bringing closure from one period to another. It is challenging work, but God calls us to be Ministers of Reconciliation. To be able to build on this work in a long-term role is the next exciting part of the journey. One of his greatest strengths is the ability to coach organizations (& teams) to discover and then align themselves with their vision. The ability to execute an organized plan for maximum results is one of the best investments a church can accomplish. Expressing the good news of Jesus is the greatest message in the world. Barb and Garth have been married for 37 years and have 4 amazing adult children, two sons-in-law, and a daughter-in-law. They are also Nana & Papa to the three beautiful granddaughters (ok #3 is due at the end of 2024).
