Men's Ministry

Men's Ministry at South Abbotsford is called IMPACT - Inspiring Men Purposed Around Christ’s Truth.

Elijah Force is a men’s ministry initiative committed to covering our pastors in prayer. It was started almost 10 years ago but over the last few years, for various reasons, the fire of this ministry has waned. Now is a perfect time to rekindle the fire of this ministry in support of our pastors.

The Vision Statement

The premise of Elijah Force closely reflects the values of South Abbotsford which include Submission to Scripture, Prayer Engagement, Life Together and Spirit-led Service.

Submission to Scripture

Scripture asks us to pray for those in authority over us. Hebrews 13:17 says: “Obey your leaders and submit to their authority. They keep watch over you as men who must give an account. Obey them so that their work will be a joy, not a burden, for that would be of no advantage to you! Pray for us!” James 5:16 says: “Pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayers of righteous men are powerful and effective. Elijah was a man just like us. He prayed earnestly...”. This is why this prayer ministry is named Elijah Force!

Prayer Engagement

By engaging in prayer we commune with God and have a real effect in seeing the kingdom of God take visible hold in the world as we support our leaders.

Life Together

The Christian life is most authentically lived when an individual is united in a distinct, covenant community with other believers. Prayer as part of the Elijah Force is a great way to do this.

Spirit-led Serving

As Jesus depended on the power of the Holy Spirit in order to live out his vocation, we
likewise look to the Holy Spirit for empowerment in our life of prayer service.

Our Challenge

  • To gather men to pray for our pastors.

Our Strategy

  • Invite the men of the church to sign up.
  • Organize these men into teams, each with a leader.
  • Team leaders would communicate with one pastor.
  • Each team would focus on praying for that pastor.

More On Elijah

Elijah stood up boldly for God in a time when idolatry had swept his land. In fact, his name means "My God is Yah(weh)." The false god Elijah opposed was Baal.

How did Elijah pray to God?
Elijah prayed in faith, believing in the answer beforehand. Elijah knew God would come through for him because he knew God's promise. “So Ahab went off to eat and drink, but Elijah climbed to the top of Carmel, bent down to the ground and put his face between his knees,” 1 Kings18:42.
