Jake and Anne Dyck
Jake and Anne have been on staff at SAC since October 1, 2005 serving as the Pastors of Caring Ministries. Their ministry goals are summed up in the words of a favourite song:
They truly feel they have received much, having both grown up in large, loving Christian families. Both accepted Christ as their personal Savior as teenagers and were baptized on the same day in June, 1957 in Yarrow's famous ‘Jordan River’, aka, Stewart Creek.
Anne sometimes attended South Abbotsford Church in the ‘40s & ‘50s when her family went to visit their Uncle Abram Rempel, SAC's pastor in those years. They first attended as a family for SAC's 50th Anniversary in the summer of 1982 and have appreciated the Biblical teaching and the many friends they've made over these past 24 years.
Jake and Anne were married December 27, 1962 and have 3 grown children: Raymond, married to Carrie; Leanne married to Mike; and Gregory, who is also a partner with his Dad in J. & G. Builders. They were foster parents in Kitchener, Ontario from 1969 to 1982, during which time they shared their home with 22 boys. They feel very blessed that Tim, Randy, Brian and Reg and their families are still a part of their lives. They love being grandparents to Chelsea, Joshua and Barak as well as their special foster grandchildren.
A favorite family story is how Jake and Anne first met. Jake's family had just moved to Yarrow and he was dropped off at his new Sunday School class. He was an incredibly shy 4 year old and stood outside the classroom door, crying. He remembers clearly how a little brown-eyed girl, wearing a yellow dress, came out, took him by the hand, befriended him and led him into class. That little girl was 3 year old Annie Rempel (who sadly has no memory of this important day). Jake claims, “she’s been leadin’ me around ever since”.
Jake’s hobbies are woodworking, fishing and mechanics. His favorite ice cream flavor is Vanilla. Anne enjoys playing games and collecting Beanie Babies - latest count is over 500. Her favorite indulgence is a Dairy Queen strawberry shake.
Both love going for drives on new country roads, often stopping to play Scrabble beside a stream or on a mountainside and staying to watch the sunset. Playing ‘Mexican Train’ with good friends is a Friday night tradition. Most of all they love spending time with their grandchildren.
"Multiply Your love through us to the lost and the least,
Let us be Your healing hands, Your instruments of peace,
Multiply Your love through us to someone in need,
Help us Lord to freely give this grace that we've received."
