Connecting Points
9:00-11:00am Wednesday mornings
Connecting Points is a weekday morning opportunity for women of all ages to connect with each other. It's a time to meet up with old friends, and a time to meet new friends. It's a time to give and receive encouragement. The morning starts with coffee and conversation, followed by a brief devotional and the class of your choice. Watch for registration information in September.
Child care is offered for a small fee for children ages 6 months to 5 years. Mothers with children under 6 months are invited to bring their infants to class with them.
For further information, please email Charlene Foster or contact her at 604-853-2663.
Evening Edition
7:00pm Thursday evenings
Evening Edition is a group of women who are active in the workforce and meet weekly in the Getaway to encourage each other and learn together. The evening starts with coffee and refreshments at 7:00pm, followed by a time of study and prayer. Watch for more information in September.
Please email Kathy Moodie or contact her at 604-308-1951 for further information.
First Time Moms
1:00-3:00pm Wednesday afternoons
Becoming a mom for the first time is a joyful and also challenging transition. You're invited to join other new mothers and their babies on Wednesday afternoons for a time of connecting, sharing and learning. Our schedule generally alternates weekly between a slightly structured teaching time, and a more relaxed “play date” at the park or the church. First Time Moms is taking a break over the summer months, but will start again in September.
For more information and schedule details, please email Melissa Cruikshanks
or contact her at 604-556-2270, or email Charlene Foster or contact her at 604-853-2663.
Thursday Play Group
9:30-11:00am Thursday mornings
If you're looking for relaxed place to come where your young children can play and you can meet other moms, come to the church nursery on Thursday mornings. Sometimes we also meet at the park or plan group outings. For more information, email Kelly Ens or contact her at 604-557-1927.
Prayer Blankets
9:00-11:00am Wednesday mornings
Our prayer blanket ministry is one practical way we show God's love to people in need. Meeting in the board room, women create fleece blankets by cutting and knotting the edges. As they make the blankets, they pray for the person who will be receiving it. The blankets are given along with a note expressing the hope that the warmth of the blanket will remind them of the warmth of God's love. The blankets are distributed with the help of partners in the local community. The prayer blanket class has finished up for this year, and will start again in the fall.
For more information contact the church office 604-853-2663.
Meals and Necessities for Women through Abbotsford Women’s Resource Centre
We have an opportunity to show love and compassion in a practical way to some of the most needy women in our community. Women from our church provide hot meals for prostitutes who attend a drop-in at the Abbotsford Women’s Resource Centre.
We also help provide other basic necessities like toiletries and socks. For a complete list of suggested items, click here. Donated items can be dropped off in the bins available in the foyer, or at Connecting Points or Evening Edition. For more information, email Norma Neufeld or contact her at 604-850-9390 or call the church office at 604-853-2663.
Prayer Ministry – ongoing
Under the leadership of Jackie Masterson, the Women's prayer ministry exists to provide prayer support for women in the various roles they fill in the work place, in the family, in the home and in the community. Prayer requests are received and kept in confidence.
There are three ways to request prayer:
1. Pray with Jackie personally (Wednesday morning during Connecting Points or as arranged)
2. Submit a prayer request using the prayer box (available on the counter by the Women's Ministry bulletin board in the foyer or at Connecting Points)
3. Email your request to Jackie.
Special Events
Twice a year we host a special event for the women of our church and the broader community. These events are coordinated by Joyce Regehr.
The Ladies’ Spring Tea on Sunday, May 25 was a fun, relaxed event. Live music, gorgeous displays by local collectors and artisans, and an informative talk by Dan from Homestead Nurseries on container gardening provided something for everyone to enjoy. And, of course, the wide variety of exotic and traditional teas and dainties were delicious. Thank you to the committee and all the volunteers who contributed to a delightful afternoon.
The Christmas Brunch is a wonderful way to kick off the Christmas season. Volunteers set the tables with their own Christmas decorations, which is always a highlight. Of course, you can also count on a delicious brunch and a challenging speaker. You can already mark your calendar for our next Christmas Brunch on November 29, 2008.
